The Miners Arms Community Pub Ltd
Relight the Miners Flame
Welcome
The Miners Arms in Nenthead, Cumbria, has been at the heart of our village for generations. The village is situated in the North Pennines National Landscape (National Landscapes were formally known as areas of outstanding natural beauty) and is one of the highest villages in England. It has the highest church and primary school (where the pupils learn with altitude) and is popular with cyclists and walkers, the pub itself being right on the C2C cycle route.
The Miners Arms Pub closed its doors in 2020* and has not reopened, it is now up for sale. The Miners Arms Community Pub Limited was formed to try and achieve a community buy out of the Miners Arms.

Our share offer closed on 15/06/2024 having raised £102,880 well over our minimum target of £95,00 and we would like to thank everyone of the 243 people who bought shares and are now members of the Miners Arms Community Pub Ltd. We now wait for the outcome of the general election and the news of the future of the Community Ownership Fund. The details of the share offer and business plan can be accessed here. If you are interested in becoming a member please contact us at minersarms.nenthead@gmail.com or through our Contact Us page for further details.

We have submitted our application to the Department for Housing, Levelling Up and Communities, Community Ownership Fund Grant for £369,333. We are now waiting for the result but recently got the following message from the Community Ownership Fund. "We have now entered a pre-election period. There will be no further Community Ownership Fund announcements at this time". This means the result will not be known until after the General Election.

The project was awarded a grant from Westmorland and Furness Council of £8500 which will be used as part of the match funding we need to raise. We were also awarded a COF support revenue grant of £3995 to support our application. This will be used for some professional fees and to launch our share offer.
We were awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark for our share issue. The standard mark provides a framework for societies to develop high quality share offer documents. The Community Shares Standard Mark ensures that community share offers are clear, honest and transparent. They also ensure that investors are presented with all the facts that they need to make an informed decision and these facts are supported by the business plan.

You can still join our campaign to help save our local pub. There will now be a waiting list established if you would like to buy shares in the future and of course we will need lots of volunteers to take the project forward. You can follow our social channels for up to date news, alternatively please Contact Us to be added to our mailing list.

*Although the Miners Arms Pub closed its doors in 2020 the present owner continues to operate an Airbnb from the premises.
