The Miners Arms Community Pub Ltd
Welcome
The Miners Arms in Nenthead, Cumbria, has been at the heart of our village for generations. The village is situated in the North Pennines National Landscape (National Landscapes were formally known as areas of outstanding natural beauty) and is one of the highest villages in England. It has the highest church and primary school (where the pupils learn with altitude) and is popular with cyclists and walkers, the pub itself being right on the C2C cycle route.
The Miners Arms Pub closed its doors in 2020* and has not reopened, it is now up for sale. The Miners Arms Community Pub Limited was formed to try and achieve a community buy out of the Miners Arms.

Our share offer closed on 15/06/2024 having raised £102,880 well over our minimum target of £95,00 and we would like to thank everyone of the 243 people who bought shares and are now members of the Miners Arms Community Pub Ltd.

We have submitted our application to the Department for Housing, Levelling Up and Communities, Community Ownership Fund Grant for £369,333.

We have finally received a reply from the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government about our grant application to the Community Ownership Fund. The Board of the Miners Arms Community Pub Limited are saddened to inform you that our bid was unsuccessful. As all our planning hinged on this grant with no viable alternative identified, we regret that the dream of returning the Miners Arms to its former glory is now in ashes. We will now start the process of winding up the Community Benefit Society.
Once all liabilities have been settled any monies remaining will be transferred to another Community group as mandated in our society rules.
The Board would like to thank you all for your support and the faith you put in us over the last 16 months as we tried to bring the Miners Arms back to the heart of the village.

*Although the Miners Arms Pub closed its doors in 2020 the present owner continues to operate an Airbnb from the premises.
